Sca Fell Pike

One more for this Bank Holiday Weekend - the highest plank in England. This picture was taken out on a recce of the Bob Graham route with Kevin Smith, an old friend and member of Darwen Dashers Running Club. We intended to have a proper look at Broad Stand but the weather has been a bit wet recently and the rocks were very slimy. We decided to give it a miss for today, knowing what has happened to many others before us - this story is a little unusual though, and not just because both men seem to have survived! Good luck Kevin for your attempt in two weeks time.

[PS. He did it! Well done Kevin]

Grizedale Forest Sculpture

Once you've started, it can be very hard to stop - this time on a sculpture in Grizedale Forest, half way round one of the mountain bike trails.

Oh yes and then there was this bloke - is that the wind in his shirt?

Mountain Planking

I know that there are a quite a few planking pictures on the internet but I think you will agree, this one is sensational!

Coniston Old Man Quarries

We went for a stroll up Coniston Old Man this week, picking our way through some of the old quarries just for interest. There are all sorts of interesting bits and pieces of equipment and buildings one one part of the mountain but it still has the feeling of a real mountain environment. More pictures  of this fascinating place here.

Canoeing on the Leven Estuary

The River levels are quite high at the moment, following quite a lot of rain in the last week so Kath and I had a paddle down the River Crake, into the Leven Estuary and finished at the Bay Horse at the foot of the Ulverston Canal. We could have done with a higher tide though - it might have meant a bit less donkey work...

Canoeing on the Severn

Kath and I have been away a bit recently but had a great day out canoeing down the River Severn to celebrate my mum and dad's golden wedding anniversary. Both of them made the trip, as did my one year old nephew so this really is an activity for all the family. If you are near Shrewsbury and fancy a go on England's longest river give Drummond Outdoor a call but if you would like to give canoeing a try in the Lake District then ring us at Active Lakes and we will sort it out for you.
