This weekend I have mostly been... Climbing

Spent the afternoon climbing on Warton Upper Crag with Tim D yesterday and could hardly believe the weather - it was lovely and sunny all day again and so warm for March. This afternoon Kath and I went to Wilton Quarries (that's me at the top of a route in Wilton 3) and it was too cold to stay for more than a couple of routes. Roll on the warm evenings!

Hampsfell to the Tearoom... a perfect afternoon

Yesterday Mike and I walked over Hampsfell a fairly easy walk in lovely spring sunshine. Our guests were stunned with the views from the Hospice, although slightly hazy, fantastic, nonetheless. We strolled back down to Grange-over-Sands just in time for delicious afternoon tea at the Hazelmere Cafe.

Climbing in Capel Curig

Me brushing up on climbing skills in North Wales last week. Julian and I both really enjoyed it and both learned a lot. Capel Curig nestles in the foothills of Moel Siabod, Y Glyderau and Y Carneddau taking in the majestic view of the Snowdonia Horseshoe. We stayed at St Curig a lovely old church converted into a B & B, with great hospitality. There was a jacuzzi in the garden and a larger than life moon that night - did we try it out? Afraid not. We decided against the cold night air and opted for a beer and good old pub food in the Tyn-y-Coed.

What a day for a walk!

This is Mike and Donna at Beacon Tarn and me and Mike walking down Beacon Fell towards Coniston Water, on a six mile linear route from Water Yeat to Torver Jetty today. From the jetty you can join the Coniston Launch to Coniston Village or Brantwood. The mountains in the background are Dow Crag with Coniston Old Man to the right. From the top of Beacon Fell, 15 minutes away from the tarn, the view is fantastic to the North, South, East and West.

Black Combe Fell Race

Managed to get myself to the Black Combe Race this year for the first time in a few years and I'm glad to say that I didn't look too done in at the finish. Not as fast as my last attempt six years ago but I did get comfortably in to the top half and made the top 20 for the descent from the South summit so I should be pretty pleased really.
